Expanding Claude for Nonprofits
Our new Claude for Nonprofits plugin brings new skills to every verified nonprofit organization, taking on the operational work that stretches small teams across fundraising, marketing, and hiring.
Today, we're releasing the Claude for Nonprofits plugin, a set of skills and connectors built with ~30 nonprofits. It helps teams set up Claude responsibly with their organization's context and policies, supports fundraising from research through reporting, and takes on the operational work that stretches small teams. We're also planning to extend Claude Corps (opens in new tab), our program for placing early-career fellows in U.S. nonprofits, through a partnership with Taproot (opens in new tab).
As a public benefit corporation, Anthropic has a responsibility to make sure our products are accessible and useful to organizations working on the world’s hardest problems. Last December, we launched Claude for Nonprofits (opens in new tab) with discounts of up to 75%, connectors for Blackbaud, Candid, and Benevity, and a free AI Fluency course built with GivingTuesday. More than 25,000 nonprofits now use Claude in their work. Most of those organizations are small, local operations: more than 75% of them have fewer than 10 Claude seats. We think today's update will have the biggest impact on these organizations.
We’ve spent the last year working directly with nonprofits to meet their needs. We expanded nonprofit plans to the same models as our standard Team and Enterprise plans, lowered the Team plan minimum to orgs with as few as two people, and included Claude Code in nonprofit plans at no additional cost. And during the United Nations General Assembly in September, we launched a new discount of ~90% for verified nonprofits in low- and middle-income countries, bringing standard Team seats to $3/user/month.
Cost is only one barrier. Nonprofits told us two others stood in the way: a lack of people with the skills to put AI to work, and a lack of tools built specifically for how nonprofits operate.
- Too few people with AI skills. Claude Corps is placing 1,000 early-career fellows in at least 400 US nonprofits to build with Claude alongside their teams. Hosts include a wide variety of organizations, from large organizations to small, local teams, including food banks, art museums, and veteran support organizations. We’re now planning to extend this program through a partnership with Taproot, which would match nonprofits with experienced pro bono consultants for shorter, project-based work. A growing group of partners can support nonprofit adoption, including Accenture, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), The Bridgespan Group, Civis Analytics, Deloitte, fusionSpan, Idealist Consulting, Myridius, SapienAI, Slalom, v4c.ai, and Vera Solutions. And for teams getting started on their own, we’re hosting two live webinars: Claude for Nonprofits: An Admin's Guide to Data Handling and AI Use Policy (opens in new tab), for admins, on November 10, and Claude for Nonprofits: A Staff Guide to Making Claude Useful on Day One (opens in new tab) on November 12.
- Too few tools built to meet nonprofits where they’re at. We built the skills we're releasing today with the nonprofits in our Design Partner Circle. It includes ~30 organizations, from small teams serving one region of the United States to international organizations operating in dozens of countries, working on education, economic mobility, health, humanitarian response, and more. Many are funders themselves. This fall, fundraisers, operations leads, and chiefs of staff at many of these organizations tried early versions of our skills on real work and told us what wasn't working. We brainstormed, iterated, and updated our solution based on what we heard.
What's in the plugin
We’re starting with three areas nonprofits told us were most urgent, especially as year-end fundraising picks up.
Extend your team
Many nonprofits told us the same thing: there are more jobs to do than people to do them, so everyone covers several roles at once. Claude extends your team, so a small staff can work like a bigger one and spend more of its time on the mission.
- Marketing: plan a campaign sized to your team’s bandwidth, teach Claude to draft in your organization’s voice, and get a second read on your content before it goes out.
- Hiring and people: build a job post with an interview guide and scoring rubric, plan a new hire's first 90 days, and answer staff questions from your own handbook.
- Board and leadership: see what skills your board is missing, draft outreach to the candidates you have in mind, get new members up to speed with an orientation packet, and plan the deck for your next meeting.
Set up Claude responsibly: security, governance, and context
Claude works best when it has your organization’s context, including your mission, programs, workstreams, communication principles, and policies, and when your staff have clear rules for working with it. Start by asking Claude to:
- Map your organization. Claude asks where you keep each kind of record, like donor data, grant files, finances and policies, and, with memory on, saves that map for each person. It then offers to connect the tools it can't reach yet. Every other skill in the plugin reads the map first, so Claude knows where to look and you don't have to point it to the same source for each task.
- Check what your AI policy allows. Staff can ask "Can I use Claude for this?" and get the answer based on your organization's own AI policy. (No policy yet? See the Claude Academy tutorial below.)
Fund your mission
Fundraising is the lifeline for nonprofits, and it matters even more toward the end of the year. It's also time-intensive and process-heavy, which can be challenging for small organizations. The plugin supports the full fundraising lifecycle, freeing up your team's time for the irreplaceable human work, like managing relationships and deciding which opportunities to pursue.
- Find the right funders and grants. Research donors, foundations, companies, and surface open grants, with sources cited.
- Decide what to pursue. Forward an RFP and get a breakdown on eligibility, requirements, and what it would take to compete.
- Write proposals and reports. Turn an RFP into a requirements list and a first draft built from your own material. Grant reports include sources for their figures.
- Keep relationships warm. Get a brief before a funder call, a write-up and thank-you note after, and donor updates in your voice. Ask how to re-engage donors and receive a stewardship plan.
Where nonprofits are seeing impact

“We think of Claude as a research fellow who never gets tired. With its help, our one-person government affairs team has turned our analysis of more than 750 state anti-trafficking policies into recommendations local advocates can take to their legislators to close gaps that leave people vulnerable.”

“At Best Friends, we're always looking for ways to remove barriers so our teams can focus on saving lives. Being part of Anthropic's design partner circle gave us the opportunity to help shape tools around real nonprofit challenges, and I was impressed by how quickly Anthropic incorporated feedback and translated it into practical improvements that can help organizations increase their impact.”

“We want to use AI effectively at Braven, and Claude is a key lever in how we’re getting there. Everyone has access, we ran our own training, and our IT team built Claude skills the whole organization now shares. We believe the best way to harness AI for good is to use it ourselves and constantly test and learn what works and what doesn't.”

“With a team smaller than a soccer squad, turning thousands of citizen suggestions into credible government policy is no easy feat. Claude Code helped us rapidly prototype and iterate on a tool that turns feedback from WhatsApp, voice notes and forms into traceable, clustered reports—so governments can see not just aggregated suggestions, but the voices that ultimately shape public policy.”

“Claude turned our staff retention report into a polished board deck, and the process of refining it felt collaborative and engaging. When the board came back with follow-up questions, we had clear answers ready in about 15 minutes, work that would otherwise have taken far longer.”

“At Colnodo, we use Claude to build a platform containing global information on Community-Centered Connectivity Initiatives, to improve the monitoring of our projects, and to take on much more than we were previously able to, all while helping to bring internet access to rural communities in Colombia.”

“Claude Code has helped me pull trustworthy information on crises and our response into up-to-date documents. These are being incorporated in our operational decision-making and have contributed to significant fundraising successes.”

“The donor correspondence sounded like us. Rather than repeating the same proposal a third time, Claude suggested a more accessible starting point for the partnership. We also value the option to tailor a skill to how our organization works, which addresses the concern that AI doesn't know us.”

“We connected 25 years of grantmaking into one knowledge graph that anyone across the foundation can explore using conversational AI.”

“Our teams write their own proposals, so through the design partner circle we asked for a thorough reviewer and better support for go/no-go decisions. We have been very impressed with the result. It strengthens our proposals while keeping the decisions with our people.”
“Claude helps us find savings we’d never have spotted on our own. We used it to show one of our partner agencies what it was paying at retail compared with buying through us, and that agency now spends 40% less to feed the same neighbors. Claude is making us a much better steward of every dollar.”

“Claude gives us in half an hour what once took an analyst ten days, finding the needles in our haystack of data, like where women are having to cross borders to access care. These insights reveal unmet need and help us bring high-quality, life-changing care closer to the women who need it most.”

“We tested every skill and gave Anthropic candid feedback, including that the first version assumed a small US charity. The next version handled a job posting for a role in Bogotá with Colombia's context in mind. Seeing our input reflected so quickly matters to a global organization like ours.”

“For Start Early, AI is a tool that supports the people who carry out our mission. Claude first helped our staff save time on tasks like formatting. The nonprofit skills take that further, offering a vision of how AI can support whole workflows instead of single tasks. That gives our teams a strong starting point and opportunity for more time to focus on advancing outcomes for children and families.”

“Good investor engagement starts with understanding what a funder is working toward. The nonprofit skills in Claude have been a helpful administrative tool, helping us find funding opportunities, connect a funder’s goals to our programmatic work and pull relationship history from our CRM. This allows our team to spend more time on strengthening the relationships that advance StriveTogether’s mission of helping every child succeed from cradle to career.”

“We built Rumi with Claude so every teacher can have a coach in their pocket. Turning a national curriculum into a year of daily lessons used to take expert teams years. Our agents now do this in a week, then coach teachers daily in their own language. 95% of teachers rate the lesson plans as useful. We support 16,000 teachers and 418,000 learners across 6 countries, and Rumi is open source so others can use it too.”
Safety and security for your mission
Nonprofits hold sensitive information about the people they serve. Admins manage who has access and which connectors your organization can use, and we don’t train our models on your data by default. IT teams can find our security and compliance documentation in the Anthropic Trust Center (opens in new tab), and our new Claude Academy tutorial, Claude for Nonprofits: Data handling and your AI use policy (opens in new tab), walks admins through how Claude handles their data and how to draft and roll out a simple AI use policy.
Help us shape what’s next
This plugin is the first of several releases that we will continue to build with nonprofit organizations. Thank you to every organization that has given its time to date. Tell us what would help your team most here (opens in new tab) and let us know if you want to work closer with us to shape our upcoming releases.
The Claude for Nonprofits plugin is installed automatically for nonprofits on Team and Enterprise plans, at no additional cost. To begin, ask Claude to map where your organization keeps its information, since the other skills build on that map. To see the skills at work, visit Claude Academy (opens in new tab).
Nonprofits not yet using Claude can see plans and pricing (opens in new tab).
